This message is relevant to all Local Authorities that currently delivery or intending to deliver the Nationality Checking Service on behalf of UKVI.
We have been in consultation with OISC regarding their requirements for accreditation. OISC had stated that all staff delivering NCS had to be trained by UKVI. Having met with OISC, they have agreed that LAs would meet their accreditation requirements if UKVI carried out refresher training courses for existing LAs with the aim of ensuring that at least one member of each LA attend the training and use the UKVI training material to cascade training to other OISC regulated advisers. This would comply with your on-going continued professional development and the OISC Codes in relation to maintaining fitness and competence.
The refresher training must be held and delivered by UKVI and will need to be completed within the next 6 months. If you have already attended any training sessions held and delivered by UKVI since June 2017, you do not need to attend other training sessions as the information you have received is appropriate and up to date and you can cascade to existing colleagues requiring refresher training.
Going forward, any new individual or LA wishing to deliver NCS is required to attend a full day training course held by UKVI.
This clarification may mean that you no longer need to send staff on the full one day training course scheduled for the 5th December in Grantham as you do not have new individuals or are a new LA wishing to deliver NCS therefore can you email the following inbox if you would like to withdraw your staff from these courses: NationalityCheckingService@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
As a reminder, we have refresher training on 6th December in Grantham.
If you have any queries, please contact NationalityCheckingService@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

UKVI are delivering two NCS/JCAP training events in Haringey Civic Centre, London on the 10th and 11th January 2018. The 10th is a full day course suitable for advisers new to delivering NCS. The 11th is a half day refresher course for those already delivering the service.  Should you wish to attend either of the training sessions please contact NationalityCheckingService@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk  by 15th November 2017.
If the events are oversubscribed places will be allocated fairly to ensure all local authorities are represented.

If you have any queries, please email lrsa@tsi.org.uk or call 01268 582244
